Bird Cage!

I would like to say that my hubby bought me and early Christmas gift, but to be perfectly truthful, I bought me a early Christmas gift! I did do him the courtesy of letting him know I was on my way home with it.  My fabulous find...a vintage bird cage! Please take note...I do not like birds in the house, so there will be no birds that can shake their feathers, put in this cage! I will be making some cute little wool felt birds to reside in this vintage abode.  So fun!!

Something New...

Love the new pillows I am working on!  This one is a linen blend fabric in a beautiful shade of eggplant with wool felt flowers in ivory and shades of gray.  I don't like to use pre-made templates to cut my felt, so all the felt pieces are cut by hand.  I just let my imagination create these flowers!  Love, love, love working with wool felt!

Note to Self.....

I pledge to make certain that at no time in my life will I wear curlers in my hair, to anywhere that resembles a public place; ie. the grocery store.  Also, I pledge to never, under any circumstance, hang a cow bell from my trailer hitch.  Thank you, and goodnight!

Spending Time with Mom *smile*

For the last several months I have been sewing a lot.  Mostly quilts, swaddling blankets and pillows.  I've enjoyed every minute of it, that is until a sewing machine needle broke or I stabbed myself with a needle.  Anyway, it wasn't until I switched to making my assorted aprons that things began to change...for the better I must say!  I found, throughout the whole process of sewing my "apron of them moment", I was thinking of my Mom.  You see Mom is the one who taught me to sew, and more specifically, she taught me to sew clothing.  So once I switched from creating quilts and other warm and comfy items, that switch seemed to trigger many thoughts of my sweet Mother.  She's been gone now...spending her time with the Lord, for 8 years.  But she is still with me and comes for a visit when I am sewing my aprons.  It's almost like she is watching over my shoulder, encouraging me on and enjoying what I am doing.  This is an unexpected gift neither I nor my Mother knew she left me when she passed.  A gift I treasure with every piece of clothing I create.  My memories of her are great.  I can still see her smile and hear her laugh and see the love in her eyes.  OK, I'm going to close this post and go spend some more time sewing with my Mom memories now. *smile*  Blessings in abundance!

Dang that little brown goat is cute!

So over the past three days I have taken the same route to town and have passed by a field of goats, ahhh that would be 6 times!  I love, love, love slowing down to see the latest antics of the herd.  There are soooo many goat personalities in that field!  Well anyway, these last 3 days I've noticed an Itty Bitty Baby Goat (IBBG) at the fence, near the road that I motor down.  He is so stinkin' (more about that later) cute!  Every time I've driven by lately, he is straining to stick his neck out through the fence to eat the grass and clover flowers beyond.  I figure he is either an 'outta the box'...errrr 'outta the field' kinda thinker and going after the good stuff, or sadly, at his young age, is already bored with the run of the mill, fresh field fare, inside the fence that all the other common goats are eating. Either way, that IBBG is soooo stinkin' cute.

Oh yeah, about that....I had been enjoying this bevy of goat personalities for quite sometime, to the point where I had told my husband; "One day we are just going to have to get our own goats, so I can watch them any time of the day".  This just seemed to make so much more sense then the 'drive-by goat watching' I'd been in the habit of doing.  And then something happened that firmly changed my mind on goat ownership....I drove by one warm and beautiful summer day with the windows of my car rolled down.  I was all happy and anticipating what goat personalities I might see on display today and WHOA!!  the stench of those cute goatlings hit my nostrils!  All my gleeful anticipation went out the window as the stench came rushing in!  Immediately those little IBBG's didn't look as cutely with the stench emanating from that field!  But then of course the solution followed some quick rationalization to preserve my goatly glee; Just keep them windows rolled in the upward position to keep the fumes at bay, so that the joy of my goatly gandering may continue to be enjoyed!!

Dang those IBBG's sure are cute!

Who Does That?!

OK, so recently a purchase a variety of new fabric for the aprons that I am making.  Years ago, my Mother, in teaching my sister and I how to sew, always said to wash the fabric before doing any pattern work.  So, early this morning (yes, like 3am early!) I washed and dried my new, beautiful fabric.  In taking it out of the drier, I began to neatly fold it and stack it, readying it to transport up to my studio.  And then, I think the best of me got left by the wayside, and I found myself ooohing and ahhhhing over the beauty of my new fabric choices, running my hand back and forth over the basically texture-less fabric.  Thankfully, reality and a little bit of sensibility set in again and I returned to my task at hand.  I only hope I can control myself once I start creating my aprons!
